Floating Market
Banjarmasin Floating
Market is a traditional market at a tributary of the
Barito River, tradding vegetables, fruits and other
daily household utensils on small canoe 's in the
river. The trading atmosphere is cheerful when
the boats gather. The Floating market has no exact open and
close time while it starts at sunrise at about 05:30 and
quietes about 10:00 am when emtpy boats leave one by one. The
best time to visit the market to get a glmps of the
river trade tradition in action, is in the early morning.
Loksado
& Beyond
Loksado located on a plateau in the
Meratus mountains, about 150 kilometers from Banjarmasin to
the north. The main tourist attraction of Loksado and
the nearby villages as kandangan, Negara, Pandak Daun is the
nature beauty with the forest view overlooking the green
valleys. From Loksado Tourist can do treks over the jungle
trails from several hours to days into the forest of the Meratus
Mountains, visit longhouses at the native Dayak Meratus tribe.
About 10 typical local houses around Loksado can be found with
sizes of 30 meters large occupied by ten or more families.
Meratus
Mountain Range
The Meratus mountain range is
a forest area, from the southeast to the
most north part of South Kalimantan and bordering the province
of East Kalimantan. The Meratus "Green
Belt" is home to a rich flora and fauna, including endemic and
endangered species of Kalimantan. Bamboo Groves,
dipterocarp forest is the natural vegetation of the Meratus and can be
found at the west side of the Meratus mountains. The
underground of the Meratus mountains contains ocean
rocks, limestone and sedimentary rocks, and functions as a
water catchment area that guarantees regular irrigation cycles
for the lower lands along the rivers. The Meratus Mountains is the
livelihood for thousands of the Dayak Meratus tribe people.
