Derawan Island
Derawan
Island is a global biodiversity spot with a total land surface
of 40,000 hectares of nature reserve with beautiful scenery and
beaches. The rare flora and fauna species are preserved here,
from more then 2000 species of reef fishes and 500 coral species, among
them are the scaled turtles, belimbing turtles and sea cows.
This Island is occupied by the native Bajau people, living in their
traditional villages, and even in the stilt houses build in the sea,
with fishing as the main activity.
Derawan sea gardens are beautiful, the paradise white beaches
and coastal forests are inhabited by sea birds, iguanas, and
swallows. There are caves inhabited by various kinds of crabs. The
waters around Derawan are good for swimming, fishing, scuba diving,
snorkeling and other water sports.
Our local guides will show you the insights of life on Derawan
and will serve cocktails and canapes on the beach as part of
a local cultural performance will entertain you on the
beach, with swimming and snorkelling available all
day. For SCUBA divers an option exists to
purchase a SCUBA dive with a local dive operator. Exact location of
dive is dependant on weather and number and capabilities of
participants of your trip.
The sea which surround Derawan itself is filled with critters such as flamboyant
cuttlefish, squat lobsters, ghostpipe fish, bluering octopus,
nudibranchs, seahorses, ribbon eels and scorpionfishes.
Rabu-rabu Island is very small island next Derawan, and is also called
Snake Island. There are also Tanjung Batu, Panjang, and Kakaban Island,
the latter with lakes.
Nabucco Island Resort

is an unique private island at the east coast of "Borneo",
located in a clear blue lagoon sea and white
beach filled by palm trees. All
the Beach Bungalows have westeren
facilities and make it an exclusive
resort of Extra Divers at it 's 20.000 square meters. All dive
locations are within 30 mintues distance as the Big Fish Country, that
connects the lagoon to the outer reef, where
chevron barracuda, various sharks, spotted eagle rays, big
groupers, bumphead parrotfish and schooling trevallies can be
found. Also Sangalaki
or Kakaban Islands are within the distance to give you the
occasion to swim with elegant mantas, or Diving around Kakaban
is thrilling, with it's yellyfish lake and Barracuda coral
reef wall.
Maratua Island
Maratua
is beautiful Island with a small lake and a bay facing the Sulawesi
sea. There are four village : Teluk Harapan, Teluk Alulu, Bohebelian,
and Payung-payung with a total population of about 2,700 people . This
area is very suitable for canoe races, speedboat racing, water skiing,
and scuba diving. Maratua Island is also called as Sandalwood Island.
It is reachable from Tanjung Redep (Berau) or Tarakan.
Samama
Island belongs to the some group as that of Derawan Island. Samama
means "mother". It is a nature reserve for turtles.
Bunyu
Island lies to the north, and in the past was believed to contain gold.
The Dutch came and opened a mine there, but they never found any gold.
Sangalaki Island
Sangalaki
as one of the Islands, is a attractive dive destination as it is known for the
large manta rays that come here to feed their plankton. The Manta 's show mostly up at
the north part of Sangalaki Islands, and come from all directions. The
Manta's are often seen at the surface waterline, and even when
snorkeling the Manta's can be easy seen. Here
you can swim with the elegant moving Manta' s which
have a wing weight of more then two meters. Sangalaki is also known of
it's breeding of the green turtles
Kakaban Island
Kakaban
Island is know of it's mangrove fringed lake inside
which is a bit above the sea level, the lake itself is about 17 meters
deep of brackish water with a green algae bottom, sea life diverse
from four types of jellyfish, snakes, orange purple and yellow
clams on the branches.
The
Dive points around the islands as the barracuda Point has sharks,
leopards fish, tunas, snappers and offcourse large schools of
barracudas, the Blue Cave point is a cave of about 120 meters
long with at the end a Blue sea light, and is only for the experienced
divers. From the Dive points the Gorganian Forest view is amazing
