Wehea Reserve
Wehea
Reserve, is an protected primary rainforest area of almost 40.000
hectares, in the deep interior of East Kalimantan, at a distance of
about 7 hours traveling from Derawan archipelago,
Wehea is an unique diverse dense jungle area, containing
lowland forest, dipterocarp rain forest, montane forest,
limestone forest and clouded highland forest. The altitute is from 200
meter above sea level to more then 1500 meters of sea level. The
Dayak Wehea tribe living in several villages at the border of
the protected jungle area, with spiritual believes, and traditions,
long earlobs, tattoo 's and longhouses.
Wehea
Forest is managed by the local Wehea Tribe, to protect
the biodiverstity of endangered species as clouded leopard,
orangutans, sun bears, langur, and more then 60 endemic
bird species. Since 2008 Wehea developed for tourism, with a
jungle lodge, and trekking trails, to become a sustainable eco-tourism
destination.
The
Location of Wehea Jungle is remote, and can only be reached over a
muddy trail for about 3 hours by four wheel drive car from the main
road. Traveling to the area need some adventure spirit, and patient to
the natural heritage of Borneo
